　　1971年1月11日，Mary J. Blige出生在美国纽约最北部的The Bronx区，但是他早年的时光确是在佐治亚州的港口城市Savannah度过的，后来她和母亲、姐姐一起搬到了纽约东南部的Yonkers，童年带给她的只有创伤。不久她从高中辍学，和她的母亲一起打点理发室。16岁时，有一次她在纽约White Plains的一家卡拉OK演唱Anita Baker的《Caught Up in the Rapture》，并录制成了磁带，她的声音把Uptown Records唱片公司的总裁Andre Harrell吸引住了，很快她就得到了该公司的合同，但开始她只是在公司做些幕后工作，比如给大牌歌手做背景和声等。直到1992年，她得到了吹牛老爹Sean "Puffy" Combs的协助，在他的制作下，Mary J. Blige的形象开始渐渐转变，她开始慢慢的摒弃一些自身的坏毛病，诸如懒散和暴力倾向等，到了1999年，她的第四张专辑《Mary》开始变得和以往不同，越发的成熟路线，无论是音乐和服饰，都体现出了她真正成熟、大气的特点。随后的专辑越来越能体现出她自身的特点，2001年的《No More Drama》和当初第一张专辑《What's the 411?》相比简直有天壤之别，更多的自主创作，让专辑更像是Mary J. Blige的个人专辑。2002年，Mary J. Blige又发行了专辑《Dance for Me》，专辑的制作人由说唱大佬Dr. Dre担纲。2003年，第七张个人专辑《Love & Life》与歌迷见面。

　　Mary J. Blige的专辑中有五张成为冠军专辑，数十首顶尖单曲，并且曾经在1996年凭借歌曲《I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need To Get By》和Method Man一起获得了第38届格莱美最佳说唱组合奖(Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group)，并且还在今年凭借歌曲《He Think I Don't Know》获得了第45届格来美最佳R&B女歌手奖(Best Female R&B Vocal Performance)。
